Jonathan Pease graduated from St. Catharine’s College, Cambridge, with an MA in Music in 2010 before undertaking further study as a pianist with Graham Fitch. He holds the DipABRSM in piano performance with Distinction. As a repetiteur, he has enjoyed engagements with groups such as Garsington Opera, Royal Opera House Youth Company, Opera Holland Park, Surrey Arts and Mahogany Opera Group. As an accompanist, he has given recitals at venues including St. George’s Hanover Square, Waltham Abbey, St. Olave’s Hart Street, St. George’s Beckenham and Peterborough, Bury and Winchester Cathedrals, working primarily with oboist Nicola Hands and baritone Andrew McIntosh. He is also accompanist to Upbeat Choir in Wanstead and a sought-after piano teacher.
Jonathan is thrilled to have been appointed organist and Director of Music at Christ Church, and has worked to strengthen the relationship between music and liturgy, as well as founding a Choral Training Scheme for young singers and a resident semi-professional choir.
Jonathan is also a prolific composer and librettist. His first full-length opera, These Things Happen, was produced at the Courtyard Theatre, Hoxton, in 2012. He was a finalist in the 2012 English National Opera Mini Operas competition with his chamber opera The Calling and in the 2015 Opera UpClose Flourish competition with his second full-length opera, Concrete Music. Jonathan’s relationship with Christ Church has since encouraged him to write a children’s opera, St. Luke’s Shipwreck, for St. Luke’s School, due to be performed in October.
