User Groups and their Impact

  • ESOL Classes

Do you want to improve your English and participate in different workshops?

ELATT is running free ESOL classes for women in the crypt of Christ Church Island Gardens every Monday and Wednesday morning.  It’s a helpful course to improve your reading, writing, speaking and listening.  There are also  workshops helping with communication and employability skills.

The class is now full.  If you are interested in joining the next course, contact Mike on his email   

  •   Little Panda Cantonese School 

Lil pandaA group which is teaching nursery age children their

cultural heritage through music and language lessons.

Sundays: 4.00- 5.00pm. Term time only.


  • Alcoholics Anonymous:

The group meets on Mondays in the Christ Church Crypt.

Meeting Guide: Open (O) AA Meetings are open to ALL who may or may not have an alcoholic problem.

Mondays: 8.15- 9.30pm. (The group meets all year round including all major holidays(365/6 days of the year)

The group meets on Fridays in the Christ Church Crypt (Christ Church Manchester Road Isle of Dogs London E14 3BN)

Meeting Notes: NS( No Smoking), O(Open), P(Parking available) Nearest tube is the Island Gardens

Fridays: 8:00 – 9:30pm. (The group meets all year round including all major holidays(365/6 days of the year).

  • St John’s Ambulance:

st jSt John’s Ambulance runs first aid training courses in the Parish room and the Crypt.

  • Island Gardens Food Bank/ Parish Pantry
    parishAn ecumenical community outreach program for the less fortunate run by volunteers coming from

St Edmund’s Roman Catholic Church and Christ Church Isle of Dogs.

We receive donations from all over the community and are subsidized by local grocers including Asda.

Together we support those in need of food and sundries through the food pantry.

We also offer spiritual support for those who need it.

  • EPIC Bible Study Group

epic7-11 year old bible study group which incorporates fun with spiritual and biblical growth.

It meets in the Parish Room.
New members are welcome.

Thursdays: 4.30- 6.00pm. Term time only.

  • Christ Church Adult Choir

worship-musicOur in house Choir which sings most Sunday parish masses,

and on second Sunday of the month during evensong.

They also sing during festivals and special events.

New singers are always welcome.

Thursdays: 8.00- 9.3opm

  • Funky Vibes Street dance class:





Funky vibes street dance class for school kids aged 5+


Tuesdays: 5.15- 6.15pm



  • Bell Ringers:

bellsOur tower houses 8 Bells, Tenor 10-3-27 in F#

Sunday Ringing: They ring some Sundays between 10.15 and 11.00am for the morning service.

Practices: They hold a joint practice with other ringers on. They are actively recruiting new bell ringers

from the church and the local community. If you are interested then please contact Roger Booth

at the above address or speak to someone in the church. Practices at Christchurch are usually Wednesdays 6.30pm.

  • Toy Library
    toyOur in house play group for 0-5yr olds is open to all.

It’s a chance for parents and children to socialise and play together.

Toys can be borrowed or played with on site.

Mondays and Wednesdays at 9.30-1130am.

  • Scouts:
    scoutScouts helps children and young adults reach their full potential.

Scouts develop skills including teamwork, time management, leadership, initiative,

planning, communication, self-motivation, cultural awareness and commitment.
There is currently a link with the local scouts who come to help clean

the church weekly, and help out during the Summer Fete in July.

  • London Docklands Singers:

ldsLondon Docklands Singers is a friendly, medium-sized community choir based in the Isle of Dogs in East London.

Founded and led by respected musical director Andrew Campling,they perform a largely classical repertoire several times a year at venues 

in and around London’s East End and Central London.their members represent a wide variety of ages,

backgrounds and musical abilities and are drawn from in and around London and the South East.

There is one thing they all share – a love of singing.

LDS usually meet Mondays 19.45pm but check their website for more details

  • Bach to Baby:

bachThe critically acclaimed classical concert series for baby and you.
Outstanding musicians, exhilarating performances, inspiring locations across London and the South East.

Held here, usually, on the last Friday of the month.


  • Growing with Confidence Gardening Group.  

Gardening is  good fro mental and physical health.

This is a free gardening course   focusing on basic gardening skills,

equiping people with skills and knowledgeto undertake formal training qualifications and improve employment chances.



  • Expressions with Art:

artPhilip Singh runs the user-led art group to support people during difficult times in their lives.

The therapeutic group is aimed at people affected by mental illness.
Workshops are held every Wednesday in the Parish Room in the main church.

Wednesdays: 17.30-19.00


  • Muslim prayer group IGBCA

Island Gardens Bangladeshi Cultural Association meet to pray in the crypt on Friday afternoons

Fridays: 12.30- 14.00pm
