Counting down the hours until Sunday afternoon...

If you are a church minister you feel a bit guilty about using the phrase 'like a military exercise' to describe running a church event. Never mind, It wouldn't be quite true of our summer fete anyway. With all the amazing planning that has gone into the event from our organisers, I am still sitting in the church office surrounded by piles of prizes and nearly new goods. There are deliveries by the hour of compostable cups and recyclable glasses, ice and ice-creams, handmade sausages and burgers. On Saturday an ant-like team of volunteers will put up gazebos and lay out tables. Our Sunday morning worship is early (9am) and short. No coffee because all the church members will want to lay out their stalls and catch a midday snack before the crowds arrive. Once the fete has been opened by Headteacher Jill Baker the time will fly by, and hopefully everyone will have a good time, eat something, drink lots (tea, coffee, iced coffee, iced water), buy something and win something. The children will bounce and be entertained and make lots of noise, and nobody will mind at all. It's a great event, part of a great tradition, and I can't wait for it to start.
