New Priests for London
48 new priests will serve parishes throughout the Diocese of London following ordination services across the Capital.
The new priests represent diverse backgrounds including advertising, youth work and even the Australian national rugby sevens team. Each has already undertaken a period of ordained ministry – in most cases one year – after previously being ordained as a Deacon.
This year the number of new priests joining churches in the Diocese of London has increased by almost a third, after 38 priests were ordained in 2018. In addition to this year’s new priests, churches across the Diocese of London are also welcoming 45 new Deacons after ordination services last month.
The Rt Revd and Rt Hon Dame Sarah Mullally DBE said:
“I’m thrilled to see 48 new Priests ordained in the Diocese – representing an increase of almost a third compared to last year. The Church is flourishing in London, and these inspirational men and women are testament to that.
“Our churches are playing an important role at the centre of their communities during the pandemic, working with other faiths and local groups to organise foodbanks, coordinate volunteers and fundraise. These new priests, with their impressive range of backgrounds and experiences, are making a very valuable contribution to that effort.”
